South Dakota voters have rejected the state’s historic ban on virtually all abortions. “No” votes outnumbered "Yes" by 10 percentage points.
Carrie Gordon Earll, director of issues analysis for Focus on the Family Action, said "it’s encouraging to see that almost one-half of voters in South Dakota supported a ban on virtually all abortions in the state. This vote demonstrates the strong degree of pro-life support in South Dakota, and we would suspect in other states as well -- if such a vote were held.”
Recent polling found a majority of voters -- 56 percent -- who were undecided or opposed said they would support Referred Law 6 if it had included an exemption for rape and incest.
