Hollywood Recognizes the Value of Family-Friendly Movies

Film studios are anxious to get a copy of the winning entry of the annual John Templeton Foundation Kairos Prize for Spiritually Uplifting Screenplays.

Scripts entered must meet family-friendly criteria; they must be wholesome, uplifting, inspirational and result in a greater love and understanding of the "one true Creator God."

Disney, Sony Animation, Dreamworks and Columbia Pictures are among the 35 studios that want a copy of the winning entries. Each knows the next Christian blockbuster could be on the list.

Dr. Ted Baehr, chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission, said the tide has turned in Hollywood over the past two years.

"These industry leaders now recognize that moral and spiritual films have the broadest appeal," he said. "We are very excited about what this means for the continued success of the Christian and family-film genre in Hollywood."

The Greek word "kairos" means "at the right time," Baehr said.

"There could not be a more perfect time," he said, "to introduce these hundreds of original Christian scripts to these leaders."
