Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline, who lost his bid for re-election, was selected Tuesday to replace Johnson County District Attorney Paul Morrison -- a position that may allow Kline to continue his investigation into possible criminal conduct at two Kansas abortion clinics, LifeNews.com reported.
As attorney general, Kline began investigating the clinics more than two years ago. The Kansas Supreme Court granted Kline the right to review files of 90 patients to see whether they contain information that could lead to the investigation and conviction of rapists and sex offenders with minor victims.
Investigators also planned to see if there is an indication of illegal activity by clinic doctors, including illegal late-term abortions or failure to report the abuse of a minor.
Morrison, who was elected to replace Kline as the Kansas attorney general, has indicated reluctance to continue the probe.
In a speech Monday, Kline said that as district attorney, he could be in a position to file charges, if the investigation uncovers illegal activity.
"I'm not new to the cause," he said. "I have been tested in leadership, and you know I will stay the course."
