Study Uses Adult Stem Cells from Patients' Own Fat

Medical researchers continue to turn to adult stem cells to provide therapies and cures for patients.  Now you can add stem cells from fat tissue as a promising therapy for heart disease.

The Texas Heart Institute announced Monday that for the first time a heart-failure patient has been injected with adult stem cells taken from his own fat tissue.

The cells were removed by liposuction, then, after processing, injected directly into the heart.

The procedure was performed in Madrid, Spain, but is part of a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clinical trial.
