Kansas Fetal-Protection Bill Moves to Senate

The Kansas House of Representatives approved a bill Monday that would allow prosecutors to lodge double-homicide charges against anyone who kills a pregnant woman, MSNBC reported.

Alexa's Law, named after the baby of a teen mom who was shot and killed, would allow charges to be brought if a baby is killed or injured at any point in a pregnancy.

This is the third time the lower chamber of the Kansas Legislature has approved such legislation. In 2002 and 2005, the bills died when they failed in Senate committees.

Thirty-four states have adopted similar legislation.
