Missouri Governor Cuts Planned Parenthood Funding

Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt announced last week that state money won’t be given to the nation’s largest abortion provider, LifeNews reported.

“Today, I put an end to taxpayer dollars going to Planned Parenthood,” he said. “This ensures women may access important preventative care without contributing to abortion providers’ goal of facilitating the destruction of innocent life.”

Planned Parenthood received the money under the state’s Show Me Healthy Women program, which provided free breast- and cervical-cancer screening for low-income women. Blunt supports the goals of the program -- just not through Planned Parenthood.

“Patients should not have to go to an abortion clinic to access life-saving tests,” he said.
