Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat, will not speak at her daughter’s Catholic high school graduation because her support of abortion and embryonic stem cell research is at odds with the Catholic Church.
McCaskill was scheduled to speak at St. Joseph’s Academy near St. Louis, but the offer was rescinded last week.
“Senator McCaskill's anti-life views are in direct conflict with the Catholic Church's teaching on the sanctity of all human life,” said Dawn Vargo, assistant bioethics analyst for Focus on the Family Action. “Archbishop Raymond Leo Burke believes that speakers at a Catholic high school graduation should reflect — and reaffirm — the Catholic Church's high view of human life.
“Hopefully, this incident will give Senator McCaskill a reason to reconsider her views on abortion and embryonic stem cell research.”
