Global Warming Viewpoints Linked to Religious Affiliation

A nationwide poll finds opinions about global warming vary by religious connection.

The Barna Group survey revealed most evangelicals are skeptical about global warming and lack enthusiasm for investing in environmental policies.

Only 33 percent of evangelicals see global warming as a “major problem,” compared to 62 percent of other faiths, ranking evangelicals as the “least concerned segment among more than 50 population groups studied.”

Stuart Shepard, managing editor of CitizenLink and also a meteorologist, said Christians are right to be skeptical of the distorted claims in the mainstream media.

"This is not an issue that should define or divide evangelicals," he said. "In recent months, it has become clearer than ever that many scientists believe the slight increase in the Earth's temperature over the past 30 years is due to natural causes. It's just what the planet does every millennium and a half or so."
