Family Advocates Doubt Study on Risks of Virginity

Researchers from Columbia University and the state of New York claim that men who wait too long to have sex — after age 23 — may have an increased risk of sexual problems later.

The study, which appears in the January issue of the American Journal of Public Health, points out that men who have sex early also have an elevated risk of problems.

Linda Klepacki, sexual health analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said the health and future of our children should not be based on research that warrants doubt even from its authors.

"The linking of abstinence education with later sexual dysfunction and then reporting that 'the abstinence-only approach is a public health hazard' can only be interpreted as an ideological and political attack — not science," she said. "Publishing medically inaccurate conclusions is not acceptable.”
