On the Big Screen, Abortion is Out

There's an abortion every 30 seconds in the U.S., but that's not the trend on the silver screen. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that recent movies are choosing life.

Movies such as Knocked Up, Waitress and Juno all show an unplanned pregnancy being carried to term. While Focus on the Family does not endorse these movies as family-friendly, the movies do promote a positive message about the importance of life.

Bob Smithouser, print editor for Focus on the Family's Plugged In magazine, said Knocked Up points out the baby’s heartbeat in an eighth-week ultrasound.

“During the closing credits, viewers see the child and her parents still together and enjoying family life,” he said. “Even (the main character’s) mom, who advised her to abort and someday have a 'real baby,' seems blessed by the bundle of joy she would have destroyed."
