England’s Michelle Stepney, who was pregnant with twins, rushed to the hospital with what she thought was a miscarriage. The doctors discovered it wasn’t a miscarriage, but a cervical tumor — and her babies saved her life.
The twins’ constant kicking in the womb dislodged the tumor and allowed doctors to discover it before it was too late. However, in order to treat the cancer with chemotherapy and a hysterectomy, Stepney was advised to abort her babies; she refused.
"I owe my life to my girls, and that's why I could have never agreed with a termination,” she told the U.K.’s Daily Mail. "I had two lives inside me, and I just couldn't give up on them — especially after they had saved me like this."
Twins Alice and Harriet just turned 1; Stepney is cancer-free.
