A Minnesota House committee passed a bill Thursday that approves human cloning and the killing of human embryos at the University of Minnesota. The Kahn-Cohen Cloning Bill (S.F. 100) forces taxpayers to fund the destructive research.
The legislation will not only allow millions of dollars in taxpayer funds to be used to kill living human embryos, but also requires U of M to kill all cloned humans embryos or face felony charges.
Pro-life group Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) said the killing of innocent human life at any stage is unethical and taxpayers must not be forced to fund it.
"This is the most shocking and dangerous threat to human life in years," Jenny Hoelscher, MCCL legislative associate, said in a news release. "It is difficult for taxpayers to believe that their elected officials are even considering legislation which would require such massive destruction of human life."
Tom Prichard, president of the Minnesota Family Institute, said if and when the legislation reaches Gov. Tim Pawlently’s desk, he is confident the governor will veto it.
