Massachusetts Tourism Campaign Features Homosexual Couples

The Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism has unveiled a new campaign, including its first spots featuring same-sex couples.

The Boston Globe reports the travel office is spending $4.6 million on the ads, which will begin airing on television and appearing online starting April 1.

In 2004, Massachusetts became the first state to permit same-sex "marriage."

Jenny Tyree, associate marriage analyst at Focus on the Family Action, called the ad campaign a "real gamble."

"The Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism is betting that this campaign will appeal to more families than it will turn away," she said. "It's unlikely to pay off, since most Americans oppose what they're promoting — same-sex 'marriage.'"
