University of Hawaii Adds Housing for Same-Sex Couples

The University of Hawaii has decided to create student housing for same-sex couples, one day after a same-sex couple sued the school for being excluded from married student housing.

Joseph O’Leary and Phi Ngo applied for family housing, but the university originally denied their request, stating that Hawaii has defined marriage as between one man and one woman. The school claims its new housing policies were not influenced by the lawsuit.

Jeff Johnston, gender issues analyst for Focus on the Family, said the university is chipping away at the institution of marriage.

“Sadly, the University of Hawaii caved in to the demands of gay activists,” he said. “In catering to a radical, special-interest group, the university is redefining marriage and family.”
