The Arizona Legislature soon will vote on a constitutional amendment to protect marriage. The amendment states that "only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this state." If the Senate and House approve the measure, it will go to voters in November.
Arizona has a law defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman, but marriage supporters say an amendment is necessary to protect marriage from being redefined by activist judges.
Cathi Herrod, president of The Center for Arizona Policy, said homosexual-"marriage" activists don't want the people of Arizona to vote on the issue.
“Opponents to one-man, one-woman marriage are making outrageous claims — and even threats — in their desperate effort to defeat the marriage amendment so they can push for same- sex 'marriage' in Arizona,” she said.
