Scientists at the University of Manchester in England may have found a way to help paralyzed patients. The researchers have discovered adult stem cells can respond to chemical signals that instruct the cells to repair damaged tissue.
The process could lead to the development of techniques to tell adult stem cells to mend the body, London’s Metro reported.
“What we have shown is that adult stem cells respond in particular ways to some of the chemical signals in the body,” said Cay Kielty, a professor at the university. “After that, we can look at applying our understanding to develop stem-cell derived therapies for tissue repair.”
