The Oklahoma Legislature voted Thursday to override Gov. Brad Henry’s veto of a bill that will require women to get an ultrasound before having an abortion.
The bill will become law on Nov. 1.
Other provisions of the law: It will prohibit abortions to all minors without parental consent and allow health-care professionals to refuse to participate in abortions if it compromises their beliefs.
The House and Senate votes to override the governor’s veto “represent an affirmation for the value of each human life and speaks well of our elected officials' commitment to the most vulnerable members of our human family – those waiting to be born,” Tony Lauinger, chairman of Oklahomans for Life, told the Tulsa World.
