The Pennsylvania Senate has postponed indefinitely a vote on a proposed marriage-protection amendment — SB1250 — that would define marriage as solely the union between one man and one woman.
Sen. Michael Brubaker, a Republican and sponsor of the bill, asked to have it tabled after learning it could die in a Democrat-controlled House committee.
Thomas Shaheen, vice president of policy for the Pennsylvania Family Institute, said the amendment is critical to protecting marriage in Pennsylvania.
“This issue is one of preserving the historical public policy in this commonwealth of promoting institutions that benefit society and discouraging those that do not,” he said.
Before Pennsylvania voters can vote on marriage, the amendment must pass the House and the Senate in consecutive legislative sessions; this is the first session it has been considered.
TAKE ACTION
If you live in Pennsylvania, ask your state representative and state senator to support SB 1250 without any changes or amendments. Also, ask them to urge their leaders to schedule a vote.
