Babeland, a “kid-friendly” sex shop, will open Sunday in Brooklyn, N.Y. Featuring upbeat music, "well-dressed" saleswomen and infant changing tables, the owners say it is part of a nationwide trend of sex shops attempting to remove the sleaze.
“The sex industry thrives on euphemism and deception,” said Daniel Weiss, senior analyst for media and sexuality at Focus on the Family Action. “Adding lights and changing tables doesn't change the damage pornography causes to individuals and families. The only thing this changes is who is being targeted by the lie.”
The business, which also operates in Seattle and Los Angeles, targets heterosexual and homosexual couples. It was chosen by Out magazine as one of the greatest gay-business success stories of 2003.
