The U.S. House has passed legislation that extends funding for Title V abstinence education for one year. The funding, which has continued under a series of temporary reauthorizations, was set to expire June 30.
Linda Klepacki, sexual health analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said: “The longer Title V is extended, the longer kids get to hear the message that the healthiest choice for non-married youth is to remain sexually abstinent.”
In related news, the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor Health and Human Services recently voted to include $85 million in funding for Community Based Abstinence Education in the 2009 budget. The full committee now will review the bill.
