California's Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is using the state’s new pro-gay school-curriculum mandate to further its agenda.
A recent GSA newsletter instructs students that “tolerance” is an important first step, but “we need to push further” and “infuse LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) curriculum into history, social science, and literature classes.”
The pro-homosexual law SB 777, which is set to go into effect next month, prohibits textbooks, teachings or activities from "reflecting adversely" upon or "promoting bias against" homosexuals, transgenders, bisexuals or those with "gender issues.”
“This has been their agenda all along: to use our schools to indoctrinate our children and to silence Christians in the classroom," said Karen England, who heads up Capital Resource Family Impact. “It’s frightening that they are … ready to go in and take over our schools with gay, lesbian and transgender issues.”
Her group is helping Save Our Kids with a petition drive to get SB 777 overturned. Half a million signatures are needed to place the referendum on the June 2008 ballot, and signatures must be turned in by Jan. 10 — the day before the law will take effect.
Finn Laursen, executive director of the Christian Educators Association, said there’s no question homosexual activists want more than "tolerance."
“It’s a promotional concept, and that’s the thing we need to wake up to," he said. "There is a move not only to tolerate, but to accept divergent sexual lifestyles, and this is not what the purpose of our public schools.”
