Good News: ADF Offers Help to Iowa Employees Who Stand for Marriage

The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) is offering free legal defense to county recorder offices in Iowa that protect their employees' rights of conscience by not forcing them to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

The offer follows a statement from Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller threatening legal action against any office that does not abide by the Iowa Supreme Court's April 3 decision legalizing homosexual "marriage," which is set to take effect Monday.

"Government employees who believe in marriage as the union of one man and one woman should not be penalized for abiding by their beliefs," said Doug Napier, ADF senior legal counsel. "Forcing them to participate in offensive acts contrary to their deeply held beliefs in order to remain employed is unconstitutional."
