Good News: Delaware Notches Pair of Pro-Family Wins

A Planned Parenthood bill that would have restricted parents' access to their children at an abortion clinic has failed in the Delaware Legislature,  and lawmakers also passed tougher restrictions on sexually oriented businesses.

Senate Bill 169 was an attempt by Planned Parenthood to restrict prayer outside abortion clinics. The measure would have gone so far as making it illegal for a mother to talk to her daughter within 100 feet of an abortion clinic.

The bill was defeated without even getting a committee hearing, thanks to the efforts of the Delaware Family Policy Council in conjunction with two pro-life organizations, A Rose and A Prayer and Delaware Right to Life.

A second piece of legislation, Senate Bill 179, sought to redefine sexually oriented businesses to make it easier for communities to shut down offensive businesses that threaten children and families.  Any unlicensed sexually oriented business can now be declared a "public nuisance" and shut down.

"The Delaware Family Policy Council has taken the lead to convince Delaware attorneys general that decency standards and licensing regulations must be enforced in The First State," according to Bill Spencer, national family policy council representative at Focus on Family.

"Already one prominent business has been closed in Seaford. People have been standing for truth and righteousness in Delaware and God has blessed their many efforts."
