Veterans Day Honors Those Who Served

All across the country Wednesday, Veterans Day observances will be held to honor those lost defending our freedoms.

Jerry Newberry, communications director with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, served in Vietnam and appreciates those who gave their lives.

"These are truly American heroes," he said, "people who have fought, who have landed at the beaches of Normandy, who fought their way through the Pacific."

The shooting last week at Ft. Hood, Texas, was a reminder of the dangers our men and women in the armed forces face each day – whether at home, or abroad.

Retired Air Force Col. Bill Spencer said those killed in the attack deserve our admiration.

"Even though they weren't in combat, they remain heroes," he said.  "Their sacrifice is no less honorable."
