New Hampshire Committee Votes Against Assisted-Suicide Bill

A House Judiciary Committee in New Hampshire voted 14-3 on Tuesday to recommend against the Legislature voting on a bill that would allow terminally ill patients over 18 to get lethal prescription drugs.

In New Hampshire, all bills eventually make it to the floor of the Legislature, but committee recommendations are usually binding.  Lawmakers are scheduled to hear the bill in January.

Kevin Smith, executive director of Cornerstone Policy Research, said New Hampshire citizens don't want this type of radical legislation.

"We just don't think the government," he said, "ought to be in the business of promoting doctors killing people."
