Take Action: Business Community Stands Against ENDA

Legislation would put homosexuals' rights above employers.'

Is your organization "religious enough," or could you be forced to hire homosexual employees? If a male employee comes to work dressed as a woman, what can you do? What about a female news anchor who undergoes a "transition" to become a man?

If the Employment Non-Discrimination Act becomes law, it's likely the courts will decide all of that for you.

Last week, the U.S. House Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee held a hearing on the dangerous Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). The full House could vote on the bill this month.

ENDA would prohibit employers from making employment decisions — such as hiring, promotions and firing — based on an individual's "actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity." Organizations deemed "religious enough" would be exempt.

Congress needs to hear that American businesses oppose ENDA, which is bad for the bottom line, bad for employees and bad for business. Some nonprofit businesses fear it could even lead to the loss of their tax-exempt status. Click here to learn more about ENDA.

"Businesses should be up in arms over ENDA," said Ashley Horne, federal policy analyst for Focus on the Family Action. "This bill will increase their litigation and compliance costs, create conflict among employees and is simply bad for business."

The Christian Business Association (CBA) also opposes the legislation.

"The CBA fully supports the rights of all Christian business owners to uphold their faith values," said R. Britton Brown Jr., chairman of the board. "No one should have to ever compromise their integrity, most importantly their faith.

"It is time for the church of Jesus Christ to rise up and speak the truth in love. Individual rights of homosexuals do not supersede the individual rights of Christians, and especially not those who own a business and provide jobs to our nation."
