Take Action: Ask Marriott to Get Rid of Porn

'Signing the petition gives the average person a voice directly to Marriott officials.'

Focus on the Family Action is calling on families to co-sign a letter urging Marriott hotels to stop offering in-room pornography. The letter, signed by 47 family groups, will be presented at a meeting May 14 between pro-family leaders and Marriott International officials.

It's the first time a major hotel chain has agreed to meet to discuss the issue.

Tom Minnery, senior vice president of government and public policy of Focus on the Family Action, said Marriott can’t continue to present itself as a family-friendly hotel chain while peddling pornography.

“Pornography is highly addictive and extremely destructive,” he said. “In the ‘secrecy’ of a hotel room, pornography can be especially dangerous because it creates a sexualized climate that puts men, women and children at risk.”

Most Marriott properties offer graphic pornographic movies, according to Phil Burress, president of Citizens for Community Values in Ohio. Some have more than 100 titles.

“We have an obligation as Christians, I believe, to sit down and present the truth to (Marriott) and give them an opportunity to get out of the business,” Burress said.

Daniel Weiss, senior analyst of media and sexuality at Focus on the Family Action, encouraged people to take advantage of this opportunity to make a difference.

“Signing the petition gives the average person a place at the table and a voice directly to Marriott officials,” he said. “We will rarely have such an opportunity to speak so clearly and loudly to a business whose policies can significantly alter the cultural landscape, for better or worse.”
