Obama, New Web Site Disparage Dr. Dobson

Family advocates are encouraged to send an e-mail in support of Dr. Dobson.

Dr. James Dobson's Tuesday radio broadcast has elicited a statement from Sen. Barack Obama — and an attack Web site.

On the Focus on the Family Action broadcast, Dr. Dobson discussed a speech Obama gave in 2006 in which he equated Dr. Dobson and the Left-leaning Rev. Al Sharpton.

Dr. Dobson also questioned Obama's understanding of the Bible.

"I think he's deliberately distorting the traditional understanding of the Bible to fit his own worldview, his own confused theology," Dr. Dobson said.

Obama told the media Dr. Dobson is "making stuff up."

Tom Minnery, senior vice president of government and public policy at Focus Action, said there is no need to "make stuff up" regarding Obama's interpretation of Scripture and the role of religion in the public square.

"His statements and record make clear his questionable perception of both," Minnery said. "To argue that the Sermon on the Mount invalidates the Defense Department is about as deep as anyone needs to go to understand where the senator is coming from.

"He is editing God's Word to fit his liberal worldview, and the more exposure his views on these matters get, the more obvious this will become to American Christians."

A "coalition of pastors and other Christians" has launched an anti-Dobson Web site, to defend the "Christian faith and Barack Obama."

The Web site, which attempts to compare statements from Obama and Dobson, is trying to collect signatures of those who disagree with Dr. Dobson.

Minnery called it a stunt.

"It seeks to inject animosity into the debate over Old Testament and New Testament truths," he said. "I thought this was the kind of thing that was beneath Senator Obama supporters, but apparently not."

TAKE ACTION
If you support Dr. Dobson and appreciate his strong stand for Christ, please send a respectful e-mail to the anti-Dobson Web site.

FOR MORE INFORMATION
Dr. Dobson isn't the only one who has problems with Obama's version of morality. Dr. R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, calls Obama's approach "secularism with a smile."
