Good News: Pro-Family Leaders Support Miss California USA

'Standing on a national stage and defending marriage meant more for the cause of marriage than anything else.'

Two-and-a-half weeks after finishing as first runner-up in the Miss USA pageant, Miss California USA Carrie Prejean continues to face widespread harassment over her strong stand for marriage.

With just four other contestants still on stage, Prejean was asked her opinion on same-sex "marriage." She said she believed "marriage should be between one man and one woman."

Jim Daly, president and CEO of Focus on the Family, said the Christian community should stand behind her.

"In her moment of truth, standing on a national stage and defending marriage, that meant more for the cause of marriage than anything else," he said.

Perez Hilton, the gay-activist judge who asked Prejean about gay "marriage," has called her profane names. Several Web sites continue to tear into her character after revealing photos of her were released.

Prejean said the photos were taken when she was a teenager. "I am not perfect, and I will never claim to be perfect," she said.

Daly pointed out that we are all sinners, saved by grace.

"I think at this moment, we should stand behind Carrie," he said. "The reality is we’re all fallen people, we’re all made in God’s image, and Jesus has come to set us free."

Prejean's pastor, Miles McPherson of the Rock Church in San Diego, went on "The O'Reilly Factor" on Tuesday to provide updates.

"(Carrie's) doing great," he said. "She honored her God, and that strength is what’s keeping her going today, and she’s not going to back down."

He said a lot of people support Prejean, but are being quiet about it.

"People are scared to stand up," he said. "Everyone is so intimidated to say anything against the gay agenda. We don't have the freedom of speech anymore."

Bill O'Reilly called the backlash against Prejean "a shocking display of hatred and un-American sentiment. This woman is an American citizen and does not deserve to have her life ruined."
