Reclaim Your School! Book Review

This book offers helpful and practical steps for parents, students, educators, and community leaders to impact local public schools.

I have had the pleasure over the past few days to read and review the book, Reclaim Your School!: 10 Steps to Practically and Legally Evangelize Your School. Considering the recent court battles around religious expression in the public schools, this book offers helpful and practical steps for parents, students, educators, and community leaders to impact local public schools. The book is enormously encouraging for any person wanting to make a difference in one of the greatest mission fields in our country today, our public schools.

Specifically, the book succeeds for two important reasons. First, numerous stories of students effectively impacting their own schools, many of these victories the direct result of the Pacific Justice Institute's work on their behalf in California schools. As a result, readers can see the positive results of focused and determined efforts and how similar victories can occur in their own communities. Second, the book offers one of the best summaries I've read about what is legal in public schools regarding religious expression. But, this book goes one step further. The strategies, stories, and specific suggestions make it plain that a student can share his faith on campus in a number of creative ways. Unlike other publications on this subject, Reclaim Your School! actually equips students for evangelism, not simply informing students of their religious rights.

As a former high school English teacher and faculty advisor for a student Bible club, I can say that this book would have gone a long way in helping us have a greater impact on campus.

I certainly do recommend Reclaim Your School! to every student, parent, pastor, and community leader who is interested in making an eternal difference in our public schools. But I also recommend Reclaim Your School! to teachers, administrators, or community leaders who are genuinely concerned to provide the kind of environment that our Constitution guarantees our young people. This book is a tool for change. It is my hope that many students, parents, pastors, and educators take the time to read and consider Reclaim Your School!

Congratulations to authors Brad Dacus, founder of Pacific Justice Institute, and his wife Suzanne Dacus, former public school teacher whose experience has informed every page of the book. This is a resource that could potentially mobilize thousands of Christian students, their parents, and educators around the country.
