Where can I learn more about human trafficking?

 

The following groups and individuals are leading the global movement to end human trafficking and restore those victimized by its evil.

 

Shared Hope International maintains safe houses around the world that rehabilitate women and girls harmed by trafficking. They also have conducted extensive research into the horrific practice of trafficking minors within the United States. Their Web site creates awareness of the problem and provides resources for those ready to take action.

The Initiative Against Sexual Trafficking is a project of the Salvation Army designed to spark a modern day abolition movement against sexual trafficking. The Salvation Army also provides assistance to survivors and encourages people to join the fight.

The Coalition Against Trafficking in Women-International (CATW) is a non-governmental organization that promotes women's human rights by working internationally to combat sexual exploitation in all its forms. Their Web site includes information on protection, legal reform, and campaigns to end trafficking.

The Protection Project at Johns Hopkins University works to research and document the global scope of the problem of trafficking in persons and, through the dissemination of relevant and timely information, to influence policy and practice in the war against trafficking.

Polaris Project is one of the largest anti-trafficking organizations in the United States and Japan, conducting direct outreach and victim identification, providing social services and transitional housing to victims, advocating for stronger state and Federal anti-trafficking legislation, and engaging community members in grassroots efforts.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services maintains a Web site with helpful contacts, fact sheets and “take action” toolkits.

Donna M. Hughes is a leading international researcher on trafficking of women and children and is frequently consulted by governments and non-governmental organizations on policy related to women's human rights, particularly on trafficking of women and girls for sexual exploitation.
