40 Days of Prayer Can Save Lives

Life advocates today launched a prayer vigil outside abortions clinics across the U.S. Participants in more than 80 cities in 33 states will be in prayer 24 hours a day for 40 days for the sanctity of human life.

The 40 Days for Life Campaign, which concludes Nov. 4, uses a three-part approach: prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil and community outreach.

Since the first event in 2004, volunteers have witnessed overwhelming results. College Station, Texas, saw the abortion rate decline by 28 percent. And participants in Houston saw an abortion facility go out of business.

Pro-Life Action League Director Joe Scheidler and other Chicago-area life advocates launched their 40-day prayer campaign in August to stop the opening of a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Aurora, Ill. One week after its scheduled opening, the clinic remains closed.

Ora et Labora — prayer and action — are our most powerful tools in the battle against the abortion culture,” Scheidler said. “The 40 Days for Life program combines the two beautifully, with the potential of bringing down the culture of death.”
