2007 White Ribbon Against Pornography Campaign

Sunday, October 28, through Sunday, November 4.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the White Ribbon Against Pornography Campaign. Started by a concerned Pennsylvania woman, Norma Harris, Morality in Media quickly helped take the campaign national and has been spearheading it ever since. This year, Focus on the Family is proud to stand with Morality in Media and American Mothers, Inc. to encourage concerned citizens throughout this nation to join forces against the flood of pornography devastating our land.

In a letter to national leaders this year, Morality in Media president Robert Peters described the challenge and opportunity that lies before us:

"This year we would like to use WRAP Week as a “kick off” for a year-long effort to raise public awareness about the pornography problem and to make both political parties aware of the need to enforce federal obscenity laws.  We don’t want our nation to repeat in 2009-2010 what happened in 1993-94, when President Clinton nominated Janet Reno to be Attorney General.  By 1994 Janet Reno had brought enforcement of federal obscenity laws to a virtual standstill.

"Frankly, I don’t know if our worthy cause can survive another 8-10 years with no enforcement of federal obscenity laws.  I say this because a disturbingly larger number of our nation’s youth and young adults are viewing pornography, and they don’t even see this as a moral problem!

"In significant measure, President Bush’s record on enforcement of federal obscenity laws has been a disappointment.  But to date the Bush record is clearly superior to the Clinton record, and we will be working to encourage the Bush Administration to pick up the pace of obscenity prosecutions, with the hope that the next President will build on that progress."

"My challenge is this.  Please participate in some way in this year’s WRAP Week and consider what you and your organization can do to oppose pornography between now and Nov. 2008."
