House Committee Takes Up Pro-Life Policy

The U.S. House and Senate have passed Foreign Operations Appropriations bills that essentially would gut the pro-life Mexico City policy. On Wednesday, the House Foreign Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on the policy, which prevents U.S. foreign aid from going to groups that fund or support abortion.

The Mexico City policy, named after the location where President Reagan announced it in 1984, was rescinded by President Clinton in 1993. President Bush reinstated the policy on his first day in office.

Bush has pledged to veto any bill that undermines his pro-life policies.
