Pence Legislation Would Cut Planned Parenthood Funding

Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., introduced a bill Thursday that would stop federal funding of groups that perform abortions, including Planned Parenthood. The Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act would move the family planning funds to other groups.

“There are many good things happening in federally funded family planning clinics nationwide," Pence said. "But should the largest abortion provider in America also be the largest recipient of federal family planning funding under Title X? I think not.

“There is simply no reason in the world why the taxpayer dollars of millions of pro-life Americans should be used to underwrite abortion providers in this country."

In October, Focus on the Family and about 60 other pro-life organizations asked Congress to suspend Planned Parenthood funding following a 107-count indictment against the group's Kansas affiliate.
