Dr. Al Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Focus on the Family board member, is expected to be nominated for Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) president in June, the Baptist Press reported.
Mohler provides "the kind of visionary leader Southern Baptists need to communicate a missional conservatism and biblical clarity to the world," said Robert Jeffress, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, in announcing his intention to nominate him.
"Whether the issue is the family and marriage or Islamic terrorism or the religious liberty of Christians to share the Gospel freely anywhere in the world, Dr. Mohler represents Southern Baptists well in pointing to Christ and His word."
SBC President Frank Page concludes his second term in June and is ineligible for re-election.
