Abortion Takes a Toll on the African-American Community

Since abortion became legal in 1973, more than 15 million black babies have been killed without drawing a single breath.

Day Gardner, president of the National Black Pro-Life Union, said the black community needs to stop supporting this genocide.

“We think that this is a good time — Black History Month, when people are focusing on what African-American people have to say — to bring up this very important issue," he told Family News in Focus.

“We have been lied to for so long — that having a child would only ruin your life, and if you want to have a better life, then abort your child.”

Alex Person, manager of African-American outreach in Focus on the Family's pastoral ministries department, said the loss of life will haunt the black community for a long time.

“We are losing the battle, in terms of future generations,” he said. "We have to educate our African-American people and say this is not the thing we should be doing; we should be pro-life.”
