Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., stacked his panel in favor of contraceptive-focused sex-education programs during a hearing last week to review federal funding for abstinence-until-marriage education in public schools. Waxman’s Committee on Oversight and Government Reform heard six witnesses against abstinence-until-marriage programs; only one witness testified in support of abstinence education.
Several members of Congress attended the hearing and took a stand in support of abstinence education, including Reps. Tom Davis, R-Va., and Mark Souder, R-Ind., who gave oral arguments, and Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., who testified.
Linda Klepacki, sexual health analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said she is grateful for their efforts.
“We need to thank these dedicated men and women for taking time out of their overwhelming schedules to testify on our behalf as parents and professionals,” she said.
