Good News: Following Lawsuit, Vermont School Recognizes Bible Club

A Vermont high school Bible club will receive formal recognition following a lawsuit filed by the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF).

Middlebury Union High School initially denied official recognition of the student-led Youth Alive club because its purpose is religious. The school denied its members access to the benefits available to other campus clubs, including the Gay/Straight Organization, the Arabic Club and the Student Coalition of Human Rights.

“Christian student groups should not be penalized because of their beliefs,” ADF Senior Counsel David Cortman said. “They are entitled to the same rights and privileges as any other student group on campus. We are pleased the school has reversed course and will now officially recognize the Youth Alive club.”
