Good News: America Comes Together in Prayer

Millions of Americans are coming together in prayer today — the 57th annual National Day of Prayer.

Dr. James Dobson, founder and chairman of Focus on the Family, and Mrs. Shirley Dobson, chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force, joined President George W. Bush for the national observance this morning.

"Shirley, thank you very much for being the chairman of the National Day of Prayer," Bush said. "Glad you brought old Jim with you.

"On this day, Americans come together to thank our Creator for our nation's many blessings. We are a blessed nation. And on this day, we celebrate our freedoms, particularly the freedom to pray in public and the great diversity of faith found in America. I love being the president of a country where people feel free to worship as they see fit."

In the first event of its kind, planes with prayer warriors aboard were scheduled to fly over all 50 state capitols at noon local time today.
