Good News: Americans Register to Vote in Record Numbers

More than 3.5 million Americans have registered to vote this year, up 65 percent from four years ago, according to an Associated Press survey. The survey found that more than one in 66 adult Americans signed up to vote during the first three months of the year.

Sonja Swiatkiewicz, director of issues response for Focus on the Family Action, said that while it’s always good news when Americans take advantage of their right to vote, registration is just the first step.

"Our country is blessed by a democratic system of government that, by definition, requires the input of its citizens,” she said. “It's important to know about the candidates and ballot issues we'll see on our ballots — and then to take the time to cast our votes based on the values we hold dear."
