The Prenatally and Postnatally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act (S. 1810), which will provide up-to-date information to families that receive adverse genetic diagnoses, is stuck in the Senate.
The House version of the bill — HR 3112 — is awaiting consideration by the Committee on Energy and Commerce
The Senate bill, sponsored by Sens. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., and Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., also would supply families — prenatally and up to the baby's first birthday — with a connection to support services and networks that can offer assistance.
"This bill is a commonsense, bipartisan measure to give parents the resources and encouragement they need to care for physically and mentally challenged children," said Ashley Horne, federal policy analyst for Focus on the Family Action.
