A Missouri judge ruled Friday that a state law that sets health and safety standards for abortion clinics also applies to clinics that dispense the abortion drug RU-486.
Planned Parenthood had filed a lawsuit against Jane Drummond, Missouri's director of Health and Senior Services, over a new state law that holds abortion clinics to the same safety standards as other medical facilities. Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) represented Drummond.
“The health and welfare of Missourians is worth more than Planned Parenthood’s bottom line,” ADF Legal Counsel Dale Schowengerdt said. “The court was right to determine that the law was not designed to give clinics that dispense RU-486 a pass when it comes to safety regulations that all medical facilities must follow.”
