Truth Takes a Back Seat in Sex-Education Debate

The lies of the 'safer-sex' proponents have been repeated so often they have begun to sound like truth — and our children are the losers.

After years of being accused of scientific and medical inaccuracy, abstinence-until-marriage education was again put on trial by Rep. Henry Waxman in a recent congressional committee hearing. The purpose of the hearing was to identify the scientific evidence proving or disproving that abstinence education works to decrease teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.

As usual, the deck was stacked against the truth as Rep. Waxman filled the panel with six pro-contraceptive people who did little more than express their opinions that condoms should be available to all youth in all circumstances. The lack of scientific evidence to back their opinions begs the question of whether Rep. Waxman and the contraceptives-for-children panelists even recognize the definition of the word “scientific.”

In opposition to the panel majority, Dr. Stan Weed, director of the Institute for Research and Evaluation, stated numerous times, to a mostly deaf committee, that evaluation standards need to be applied equally to both types of sex education. He further stated that condom use has been shown to be a 100 percent failure.

In spite of Dr. Weed’s factual testimony, the contraceptive-focused sex-education industry remains unaccountable to the public.  Furthermore, common sense tells us that all sexuality programs should be held accountable to change behavior and decrease teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections.

Unfortunately, the lies of the "safer-sex" proponents have been repeated so often that they have begun to sound like truth — and our children are the losers. If we can ever get Henry Waxman and his condom-only cronies to face the truth about the safest sex — abstaining until marriage — the real winners will be our children leading healthy lives full of potential.
