ADF Sues Ohio Library after Bible-Based Group is Excluded

Couple wants to teach biblically based financial principles.

The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) has sued Clermont County Public Library in Ohio after it barred a Scripture-based finance group from meeting.

George and Cathy Vandergriff simply wanted to use materials from Crown Financial Ministries that provide practical, biblically based, money-management advice.

“The library said, 'Well, we can’t allow a meeting that will quote the Bible,' " said Tim Chandler, legal counsel with ADF. "That is blatant viewpoint discrimination.

“The Supreme Court said over 25 years ago that if you’re going to open up meeting space, you can’t exclude groups just because they’re religious.”

Howard Dayton, co-founder of Crown Financial Ministries, said money and possessions are covered more than 2,000 times in the Bible.

“Yet, these folks at the library won’t let individual taxpayers teach others how to handle money wisely," he said. "It’s beyond comprehension.”
