Attorneys general from Nevada, Arizona and Utah gathered in Las Vegas this week to "open up the lines of communication about polygamy," The Associated Press reported.
They reportedly discussed what — if anything — should be done to prosecute polygamists.
"We do know that polygamy is practiced in Nevada," said Nicole Moon, spokeswoman for Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto. "Whether or not it's criminal is a different story."
Moon said U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., encouraged the meeting, which was held at the U.S. Attorney's Office for Nevada and lasted several hours.
Reid had previously accused authorities in Arizona and Utah of failing to investigate crimes in polygamous communities.
