Gay Activists Oppose Medal of Freedom for Retired General

Two homosexual-rights groups are criticizing President Bush's decision to award the Medal of Freedom to retired Gen. Peter Pace, CNSNews.com reported.

Pace is being criticized for comments he made during an interview with the Chicago Tribune in May 2007, when the general remarked: "I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral, and that we should not condone immoral acts," including adultery.

In honoring Pace, Bush said: "As chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Pete Pace was a skilled and trusted adviser in a time of war. He helped transform our military into a more efficient and effective force in America’s defense.

"For his selfless service to his country and for always putting the interests of men and women in uniform first, I am proud to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Gen. Pete Pace."
