Polls Measure Christians' Beliefs on Salvation

Thirty percent of Protestant churchgoers say eternal life can be obtained through religions other than Christianity, according to a new poll by LifeWay Research.

The findings are a bit more encouraging than a recent poll that claimed nearly 60 percent of those attending evangelical churches say many religions can lead to eternal life.

"The bigger issue here is why there are so many self-identified evangelicals who sit in evangelical pews but do not evidence evangelical beliefs, particularly in regard to universalism," said Ed Stetzer, director of LifeWay Research.

The LifeWay study will be featured in the upcoming book The Shape of Faith to Come.
