Human-Pig Embryos Get the OK in Britain

A license to create human-pig embryos has been issued by a fertility watchdog in Britain — the first since the House of Commons voted in favor of the controversial research last month.

Justin St John, a professor at the University of Warwick, wants to create human-pig clones to produce human-only embryonic stem cells.

Dawn Vargo, bioethics analyst for Focus on the Family Action, said she isn't buying it.

"The gruesome idea of cloning human embryos with pig eggs is matched only by the irony of the researchers' statements," she said. "It's astounding to hear scientists talk about the 'hope' of gathering human-only stem cells from pig-human clones — the idea is simply nonsensical."
