When our Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776, John Adams recommended a devout approach to the recognition of July Fourth.
David Barton, founder and president of WallBuilders, said Americans should consider reclaiming that idea.
“He said this is a day that should be celebrated as a day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty," he said. "This year, we celebrate another world-record 232 years under the same piece of paper. No nation’s ever done that. That’s a reason to stop and thank God."
The video series Drive Thru History has taken host Dave Stotts through Philadelphia and into the Declaration of Independence signing room. He said he gets choked up at the thought of what took place that day.
“There weren’t any delusions of grandeur when they signed the Declaration of Independence," Stotts said. "They were acting out of principle and out of courage.”
Barton and Stotts also recommend reading through the Declaration of Independence as a family.
